A negative binomial distribution was used to analyze data derived from the number of colonies formed on blood agar plates exposed in such areas for varying lengths of time. From this analysis, an upper bound for the number of colonies formed per hour was generated, which conformed to the NASA specifications for any given class of microbiologically clean areas.
