The liquified sterilizing gas is sampled as a liquid, vaporized, and collected as a gas. The gas is then brought to a set, constant temperature and pressure and its absorbance read at the maximum near 1291 cm–’.The percent ethylene oxide is then determined using a standard curve. This method requires approximately one-fifth of the time required for the wet chemical method. It also has an advantage over the gas chromatographic method, in that analyst and instrument time is greatly reduced.
