AB  - Guidelines of priorities, when dealing with septic shock, strongly recommended the use of a combination of antibiotics, one of these will be effective against anaerobes. Several antibiotics [15] and hydrocortisone were tested for their compatibility with metronidazole as a function of time with respect to the variation of pH, color change, gas formation or precipitation and for different temperatures of conservation. The selected doses would cover, with few exceptions, all the combined regimen one may wish to prescribe. Cefamandole, cefoxitin, and penicillin G cannot be recommended for admixture with metronidazole. Ampicillin, hydrocortisone, and cephalothin were found conditionally compatible. All other drugs namely amikacin, carbenicillin, cefazolin, cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, clindamycin, gentamycin, moxalactam, netilmicin, and tobramycin were compatible within the time specifications (if such) for the drug alone. Considerations of these results should take into account the fact that they represent only physical compatibility data for the products tested.
