The closures examined were those typically used in the lyophilization process. The detection system was an ion differentially pumped quadrupole mass spectrometer. Outgassing studies of the closures were conducted in a glass vacuum system and a 24-ft2 vacuum freeze dryer. Examination of the mass spectra of vapors from the glass system is discussed. Results of studies conducted in a 24-ft2 vacuum freeze dryer indicate the presence of closure outgassing vapors at various shelf temperatures.
