YR 1981 UL http://journal.pda.org/content/35/4/152.abstract AB This paper discusses the applications ofGC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry)to the analysis of elastomeric pharmaceutical packaging materials. Basic GC/MS techniques and theory are described. The use of the GC/MS for the analysis of elastomeric materials can be performed by: (a) direct solid probe insertion mass spectrometry, (b) conventional GC/MS, and (c) pyrolysis GC/MS. GC/MS is a powerful tool when used for the analysis of trace quantities of materials, particularly pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical packaging materials. This application invoiced the establishment of sampling techniques, building a “User’s Library” using known standards, and the analysis of actual samples. Case studies of actual analyses are presented to illustrate the application of GC/MS to typical, pharmaceutical packaging problems.
