It was found in the field that both can give misleading results and need to be calibrated frequently, preferably using on–site facilities. The thermoanemometer is the preferred airflow measuring instrument, although velometers and vane anemometers can sometimes be used successfully. All require calibration in a wind tunnel. A suitable wind tunnel is the key to callbration.
