A flocculated suspension was produced that extended the growth hormone suppressing effects of Wy-4l, 747 in rats to at least 17 hr, compared to 2 hr when the peptide is administered dissolved in saline. A suspension prepared using somatostatin in place of Wy-41,747 was not flocculated and gave no prolongation of activity, suggesting that no adsorption occurred. The presence of histidine residues in Wy-41,747 that are not present in somatostatin is postulated to be the reason for the success of the formulation.
