In addition retention stability and the influence of different operational procedures on the efficiency of the retention was also explored. Two groups of trials were performed, the first group with bacterial endotoxins and the second with bacterial suspensions. The results showed that retention efficiency changed according to operational procedures and composition of the solution. Good efficiency was observed when negatively charged substances were present in distilled water, but did not occur in aqueous solutions containing electrolytes. Positively charged filter media are very interesting, but need careful preliminary studies in order to define their suitability and operational procedures.
