AB A new standard has been developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for evaluating contact lens disinfectants. This paper reviews the ISO 14729 standard and applies it to marketed products. The historical significance, justifications, scope, interpretations, application, and worthiness are discussed. The standard provides a more consistent procedure and a higher standard for contact lens disinfectants. As a result, more effective contact lens disinfectants have been marketed.
