Top: Shown are counts for viruses that contain a single-stranded (MMV, PPV) or double-stranded (PRV) DNA genome. CTO: Contract testing organization; Titer: CTO- (or source) certified titer as based on certificate of analysis; PFU: Plaque-forming units; Total copies: Total copy number per mL; Inf./TC: % infectious titer per total copy number; Particle-assoc.: Particle-associated copy number (copy number from samples treated with DNAse I prior to nucleic acid extraction); PC/TC: Ratio of particle-associated copies to total copy number; Inf./PC: % infectious titer per particle count copy number. For determining infectious particles, Inf./PC is considered the most appropriate representation. Middle: Particle count assessment for viruses that contain a single-stranded (MuLV) or double-stranded (Reo-3) RNA genome. Total genomic copy numbers cannot be accurately determined, given the low stability of free RNA. We therefore assume that the value calculated from non-DNAse I-treated samples is most representative of particle-associated copy number. Bottom: Summary of results, rank-ordered from lowest to highest, where higher values may be viewed as more desirable.
