Abstract
This paper studies the development of the technology used in producing Water for Injection, as well as current technology. Various production methods are investigated and compared. Published studies and manufacturers’ information are investigated, and interviews with users are conducted, in order to establish the criteria considered in selecting equipment for the production of Water for Injection. The Water for Injection production technology is normally selected through prioritizing of features by the user. The most important criterion for parenteral use is quality of output, followed by reliability, and cost of operation. Initial price is not particularly important, if other criteria are adequately met. Further advances in distilling technology can be expected, but the developments are not likely to be as substantial as they have been during the past ten years. Therefore, the equipment properly selected today is not likely to become technically obsolete for a long time.
