Abstract
This paper reports the results of a mass spectrometric study of the outgassing properties of elastic closures. The closures examined were those typically used in the lyophilization process. The detection system was an ion differentially pumped quadrupole mass spectrometer. Outgassing studies of the closures were conducted in a glass vacuum system and a 24-ft2 vacuum freeze dryer. Examination of the mass spectra of vapors from the glass system is discussed. Results of studies conducted in a 24-ft2 vacuum freeze dryer indicate the presence of closure outgassing vapors at various shelf temperatures.
